large amounts of capacitance are required, electrolytic capacitors are
suggested. This cap contains two metal plates separated by an
electrolyte (solution of ions). The dielectric has a very thin coating
of oxide on the inside of a metal container. capacitance
and voltage rating of the capacitor are generally printed on the side
of the aluminum case. Dry electrolytic caps range from 4µF to several
thousand µF and have a working voltage of approximately 500 volts.
nElectrolytic capacitors are used when large capacitance values are needed. Capacitance, voltage and most likely tolerance are all printed on the side of the capacitor.
